When an unexpected pregnancy turns your world upside down, it’s easy to feel like you need to make a decision immediately. Many women schedule an abortion before they know much about their actual pregnancy.
Before you do, there are three things worth checking that go a long way towards protecting your health and helping you make an informed decision.
At Lakeside Women’s Clinic, we help you understand all your options with our free pregnancy services. Contact us today to learn more.
Confirm the Positive Pregnancy Test
A positive home pregnancy test doesn’t tell the whole story and isn’t as reliable as a lab-quality test taken at the right time. Home tests can produce inaccurate results if taken too early or after expiration.
A lab-quality pregnancy test, available at our center at no cost, can help confirm your positive result.
If your test is positive, an ultrasound can verify the pregnancy by assessing how far along you are, whether the pregnancy is progressing, and whether the pregnancy is developing within the uterus.
Learn More Than “Positive” With an Ultrasound
A positive pregnancy test only tells you that pregnancy hormones are present, but it still doesn’t tell you key details about your current pregnancy.
A limited OB ultrasound, which we offer for free at our center, provides additional information about your pregnancy and can identify conditions, such as an ectopic pregnancy, that require prompt medical attention and make you ineligible for an abortion.
Get STD Testing
Sexually transmitted infections are common, and many don’t cause noticeable symptoms. If you’re pregnant, the CDC recommends STI testing because untreated infections can affect both your health and your pregnancy.
At Lakeside Women’s Clinic, we offer no-cost, limited testing and treatment for common STIs, including chlamydia and gonorrhea, allowing you to address any concerns early.
